When I first saw the previews for Avatar I thought it looked interesting. It wasn't necessarily going to pay 10 dollars to watch it, but it was a movie I knew I would eventually see. The week after it came out, a group of friends decided they were going so I decided to join. The main reason I went was not because of the plot, but because of the graphics and animation (I was also persuaded because I found out it took over 10 years to make the film and it was the most money ever spend to make a movie).

I was lucky enough to see Avatar in movie theaters when it was out. The film was shown in 3D, which made the effects unreal. The movie is based on a humanoid race called the Na’vi who live on a distant planet called Pandora. The Na’vi live as one with nature, cherishing the beautiful landscapes and resources Pandora gives to them. Humans believe that if they can communicate with the Na’vi and gain their trust then they can gain a lot. An ex marine is called upon to become a member of the tribe and learn their “ways”. However, as some humans find out about Pandora they instantly want it and attempt to destroy the Na’vi in an attempt to gain control of Pandora. In the end a war breaks out and the marine is called upon to help lead the Na’vi people in an attempt to preserve Pandora’s beautiful landscape.
